Superman’s Greatest Nemisis: Kryptonite!

Actually, this is a very unusual specimen consisting of brightly fluorescent hyalite opal (Opal-AN) on translucent quartz, from the Lord Hill Quarry, Stoneham, Oxford Co., Maine. The hyalite fluoresces bright green under short wave UV, and the translucent quartz picks up the green fluorescence, causing the quartz matrix to appear to glow from within. The hyalite is only dimly fluorescent under long wave UV. This piece measures 60 x 46 x 21 mm.
