Yellow Fluorescing Calcite, Franklin Mine, NJ
Here is a very small sample of yellow fluorescing calcite from the Franklin Mine, in Franklin, New Jersey. Two traits separate this from most of the other calcite at Franklin. First, it's yellow. Second, it only fluoresces under long wave light. We found this piece during the SuperDiggg on the Mill Site pile and most of the rock was non-fluorescent calcite, with only a small portion fluorescing. After a lucky whack with a hammer and chisel, we separated the best part. Shown in LW, SW, MW and natural. About two inches across.
