Scapolite from Russian Karelia

The scapolite shows a nice red fluorescence caused by Fe3+ (see the emission around 715 nm). The picture taken at 255 nm is more yellowisch than the one at 275 nm, because most 255 nm LED's also emit in the UV-A causing extra excitation (in this case a continuum rising to the blue). The scapolite is marialitic, but does not show the typical yellow S2- fluorescence under UVA because the conditions were too oxidizing, yielding sulphate as an impurity. It comes from Kuzema, Russian Karelia.
