Wavellite sphere with unusual crystals

Wavellite: Kielce District, Świętokrzyskie Mts (Holy Cross Mts), Świętokrzyskie, Poland

The specimen has a broken wavellite sphere on a quartz matrix. These spheres are common for wavellite but they are usually built from acicular crystals. In this specimen the radiating crystals are far from acicular. They are also colored dark brown due to tar and other included organic compounds. These organic substances are what causes the greenish-tan fluorescence.

The fluorescence was photographed in unfocused 405 nm laser light.

Fierce fluoresence is due to tar like substances in this wavellite
