Color-Change Calcite, Franklin, New Jersey

18.5.2017

This is an interesting calcite specimen that was collected during the 2017 Super Diggg at Franklin, New Jersey.  Found at night on the Buckwheat Dump, this calcite shows a reverse Terlingua-type fluorescent response under UV.  Under short wave UV the calcite fluoresces bright red/pink, and shows a deep blue response under long wave UV.  This is the reverse of a Terlingua-type response in which the calcite fluoresces blue under short wave, and pink under long wave.  The size of this specimen is 8 x 6 x 6 cm, and it weighs 234 grams.
