Tugtupite, Chkalovite and Arfvedsonite, Tasseq Slope, Ilímaussaq complex, Greenland

Mottled white to grey colored rock consisting of light colored tugtupite and grey chkalovite, with back needle-like crystals of arfvedsonite. Shows a beautiful multi-colored fluorescent response under UV. This specimen was collected by Howie Green in 2011 from the Tasseq Slope, Ilímaussaq complex, Narsaq, Kujalleq, Greenland. It measures 13 x 9 x 6 cm, and weighs 555 grams.

Seen under short wave UV (top image), the tugtupite fluoresces cherry red. The green response is likely caused by uranyl salts.

Fluorescence under short wave UV (254nm) and phosphorescence after short wave, above. The tugtupite fluoresces cherry red and shows white phosphorescence after the lamp is turned off.

The above image shows the fluorescent response under mid wave UV (302nm).

Under long wave UV (365nm), above, the tugtupite fluoresces orange.
